DREADMOOR Fuel Can

Quick Answer

At The Throat, bring the Fuel Can to the generator's Fuel tank and use the left mouse button to pour. Right-click drops the can.

At The Throat, bring the Fuel Can to the generator's Fuel tank and use the left mouse button to pour. Right-click drops the can. Refueling the generator is separate from using the pump nozzle to fill your motorboat at the trading post.

These instructions concern the PC demo sequence. A can that cannot be picked up is a different problem from a tank that has received too little fuel; repeating the same pour action will not resolve a missing pickup interaction.

Find the Fuel Can near the generator

The Throat asks you to find a Fuel Can before starting its generator. Search the nearby working platforms rather than immediately sailing back to the trading post. The can is in the gate complex, with the platform by the barrels and fishing net providing a useful place to check.

Look for the actual Fuel Can interaction label. Similar-looking containers or loose machinery parts serve other tasks. Pick up the can before returning to the generator.

Read the contents displayed for the can separately from the amount shown by the generator. They do not share a single capacity display, so the can's contents are not a required fill target for the generator.

Aim at the Fuel tank rather than the starting wheel

Carry the can to the generator and move close enough for the Fuel tank name and amount to appear. The tank is the destination for pouring fuel. The nearby starting mechanism uses a separate interaction after fueling is complete.

  1. Hold the Fuel Can.
  2. Face the generator's Fuel tank.
  3. Adjust your position and aim until the tank interaction is visible.
  4. Use the left mouse button to add fuel.
  5. Watch the tank amount and the current objective before moving to the starter.

If the tank label never appears, first correct the target you are aiming at. Clicking the starting wheel with the can in hand does not substitute for selecting the tank.

Right-click is the drop action. If the can lands on the ground instead of filling the machine, pick it up again and check the pour interaction. Do not interpret that drop as the generator rejecting the fuel.

Check whether the pour actually completed

A very short input can leave the generator without enough fuel. The useful signal is a changed tank amount or filling gauge, followed by the objective moving on to starting the generator.

A later player report described holding left-click while aiming at the Fuel tank and watching the filling gauge. That report is a reason to check for a continuous pour rather than a universal repair for every fuel bug. It does not establish that reloading will fix a can that has already lost its pickup prompt.

Keep the can aimed at the tank while checking the displayed amount. If a click produced no visible change, confirm the tank prompt is still selected before trying a sustained pour. The issue may be the selected target or an incomplete input, not an empty can.

Do not discard the container merely because it still contains fuel after the generator is filled. Leftover contents are compatible with a successful refuel because the two capacities differ.

Start the generator after fueling

Once refueling is complete, follow the separate startup prompt. The demo uses a left-mouse Drag interaction on the starting wheel.

The state change matters: carrying the can to the generator, pouring into the tank and operating the starter are three distinct actions. Having fuel nearby does not mean the generator has received it, and a filled tank does not mean the engine has already started.

After power is restored, the gate sequence still has machinery work to complete. The fuel task supplies power; it does not automatically repair the waterway or open the gate.

Separate normal interaction problems from a stuck can

What you seeFirst useful distinction
No Fuel tank labelYou may be aiming at the wrong part of the generator
The can drops immediatelyRight-click is Drop, not the pour input
Some fuel added, but the objective still requests fuelCheck the tank amount and whether the pour finished
The can is visible but has no pickup promptThis is a pickup problem, not a normal pouring step
The can has disappeared or fallen through the boatNo verified recovery sequence is available

A report that a stuck pickup later worked in another build does not prove the same save will recover. Keep that separate from a normal control explanation.

If you need to return to an earlier save, preserve the existing saves first. Do not overwrite your only progress while trying to determine whether the container can be recovered. There is no verified console command, respawn recipe or guaranteed reset procedure to add to this sequence.

Use the boat pump for the boat's fuel task

The trading-post fuel sequence starts with fish processing, rather than the generator's portable can:

  1. Process fish in the Grinder to obtain Fish Meat.
  2. Feed the Fish Meat to the Fuel Larva.
  3. Take the pump nozzle using its interaction prompt.
  4. Bring the nozzle to the boat's fuel tank and hold the refueling input.
  5. Return the nozzle to the pump when finished.

The demo material shows F for taking and returning the pump nozzle, with the left mouse button held while filling the boat. Follow the displayed prompt if your controls differ.

Feeding the Fuel Larva produces the supply; it does not automatically fill the motorboat. If the creature has been fed but the tank is still low, finish the transfer with the nozzle.

That distinction also prevents an unnecessary trip when working at The Throat. A missing can pickup prompt is not evidence that you must take the generator can back to the trading-post pump. Diagnose the can's interaction state, the generator's tank and the boat's tank separately.
